Don and Olive Forney Endowed RHOP Scholarship

Eligibility: JuniorSenior
Area of Interest: RHOPPre-Med

Criteria:

First preference shall be given to a pre-med student with financial need. Second preference shall be given to a student in the Rural Health Opportunities Program with financial need. Recipient shall meet the minimum grade point average as determined by RHOP.

Olive Wilhelmina Johansen Forney graduated from Hay Springs in 1941. Following her graduation she worked as a dental assistant. When World War II broke out, she moved to CO to work as a secretary. She married Donald Forney on Novemeber 5, 1944 in Yuma, AZ, just days before his ship left for the South Pacific. She returned to Pine Ridge, SD, where she waited for her husband to get back from the service. When her husband returned from war, they moved to their Sandhills home near Lakeside on the Forney Ranch.
