Chris and Mabel Muller Social Work Scholarship

Eligibility: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Area of Interest: Social Work

Criteria:

The recipient shall be majoring in Social Work. He/she shall have a GPA of at least 2.5.


Christof Muller was born in Northeast Nebraska during the Great Depression. With finances extremely limited, he worked for two years after high school graduation to help pay for college until he was drafted into the Navy when the Korean War began. When Chris returned to college, he served as a dorm counselor where he developed a love for counseling. After completing his master's degree, he served as a counselor for Lutheran Family Services, the Omaha-Council Bluffs Big Brothers Association and the Children and Youth Program before accepting the position as chairman of the social work department at Chadron State College. Amabella was born in Baliwag, Bulocan, Philippines. She received her E.T.C. and B.S.E. degree in the Philippines. She taught school for nine years before coming to the U.S where she attended George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. While at college, she met her husband, Chris. In 1960, she received her M.S.W. degree and was married that summer. In 1975, she came to work at Chadron State College and was the tutor coordinator and academic counselor until her retirement in 1992.
